It’s that time of year again – Fashion Week (or more realistically, fashion month.)
Starting in New York and ending in Paris, it is the pinnacle of the fashionphiles’ year. Here are my favorite collections so far, from basic tailoring at Cushnie & Ochs to leather reinvented at Alexander Wang.
Alexander Wang did it again. Wang channelled London’s underground in the 90’s with an almost completely black collection. This collection is a fashion editors dream, with well thought-out silhouettes done in his signature leather and knit.
Creatures of the Wind is one of the lesser known brands showing this week, but it was the talk of social media. With classic cut androgynous suits and tailored dresses in neutral tones and patterns, Creatures of the wind is my underdog pick of NYFW
Jonathan Simkhai brings his usual bodycon dresses, but injects them with graphic mesh and cutouts galore. It’s youthful (like Simkhai himself, who’s hitting 30 soon,) sexy, innovative, and ready for my closet!
With the sportswear trend not leaving anytime soon (my feet are for sure happy to trade in my sky high stilettos for a pair of Nike Frees,) Kanye’s segway into fashion was timed perfectly .Oversized sweaters and jackets shown with nude bodysuits on androgynous models and celebrity spawn will make this collection one of the most coveted of the season.
Cushnie & Ochs’s collection focused mainly on evening wear, with polished & sleek silhouettes with enough subtle quirks to keep it interesting – a mesh flare there, a deep v here, and some peekaboo cutouts. This collection is sure to be a red carpet staple!
